How to Apply

Application Instructions

Follow these steps for best results with the Vinnie's Oil 2K system. Proper surface preparation is the most important factor in achieving a lasting finish.

Best Results: Always apply UPO first and allow it to begin curing before applying Hard Wax or Eternal Seal. Surface preparation is critical — the cleaner and drier the wood, the deeper the penetration.
1

Surface Preparation

Sand the timber surface to 120–180 grit. Remove all dust with a clean, lint-free cloth or tack cloth. Ensure the wood is completely dry — moisture content should be below 15%. Remove any existing coatings, waxes or oils that may impede penetration.

2

Apply Ultra Penetrating Oil (UPO)

Apply a thin, even coat of UPO using a lint-free cloth, brush or applicator pad, working in the direction of the grain. Allow the oil to soak in for 10–15 minutes. Wipe off any excess that has not been absorbed — do not leave pools of product on the surface.

3

Allow UPO to Cure

Allow the UPO to cure for a minimum of 24 hours in a well-ventilated space at room temperature before applying the topcoat. Full cure takes 3 days. Do not use the surface heavily during this period.

4

Apply Hard Wax or Eternal Seal

Once the UPO has cured, apply a thin, even coat of Hard Wax or Eternal Seal using a clean lint-free cloth or applicator. Work in the direction of the grain. The Hard Wax is buffed in; Eternal Seal is applied and left to dry — do not buff.

5

Buff (Hard Wax only)

If using Hard Wax, after 15–20 minutes buff the surface with a clean cloth to achieve the desired sheen. For Eternal Seal, simply allow to dry — no buffing required.

6

Final Cure

Allow a full 3 days for the complete 2K system to cure before heavy use. During the curing period, avoid placing hot items on the surface and clean up any spills immediately with a damp cloth.

Coverage Rate

One 270ml can of UPO covers approximately 25–30m² on a smooth surface. Coverage will be lower on rough, porous or end-grain timber. For best results, apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat on highly absorbent timber.

One Coat Wonder: The Universal Monocoat is designed as an all-in-one solution. One coat is typically sufficient for most interior applications on smooth, prepared timber.
1

Surface Preparation

Sand the timber surface to 120–180 grit. Remove all dust thoroughly. Ensure the wood is clean, dry and free from any previous coatings or contaminants.

2

Apply Universal Monocoat

Apply a thin, even coat using a lint-free cloth or brush, working in the direction of the grain. The Monocoat combines penetrating oil and wax protection in a single application — do not apply too thickly.

3

Remove Excess

After 15–20 minutes, wipe off any unabsorbed product with a clean cloth. Do not leave excess product on the surface as this can result in a tacky finish.

4

Cure & Use

Allow 24 hours before light use and 3 days for full cure. The Monocoat requires no buffing and leaves a beautiful natural matte-to-satin finish with no yellowing on light timbers.

1

Assess the Surface

Determine whether the surface needs a full re-coat or simply a maintenance wax. If the oil and wax are fully intact and the surface is simply dull, a Soft Wax maintenance coat is all that's needed. If the finish is worn through to bare wood, a full UPO + Wax re-coat may be necessary.

2

Clean the Surface

Clean the surface thoroughly with a damp cloth and mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Allow to dry completely before applying any maintenance product.

3

Apply Soft Wax (Maintenance Coat)

For routine maintenance, apply a thin coat of Vinnie's Soft Wax using a cloth, working it into the surface in the direction of the grain. Buff with a clean dry cloth after 15–20 minutes. This refreshes the surface barrier and extends the life of the underlying oil finish.

4

Spot Repair

For localised worn areas, lightly sand the spot with 180-grit, wipe clean, apply UPO to the area, allow to cure, then apply Hard Wax or Eternal Seal. Feather the edges to blend with the surrounding finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vinnie's Oil uses the smallest molecule structure of any hardwax oil on the market, allowing it to penetrate deeper without solvents. It is the only truly toxin-free hardwax oil system that delivers professional-grade performance — curing in just 3 days with 25–30m² coverage per can. No gloves or respirator required, and 100% food safe.
This is actually more complex than it seems. Internationally yes the product is considered food safe. In Australia there is no current Food Safe Certification and there we cannot advertise the product as 100% Food Grade and neither can any other product sold in Australia. All Vinnie's Oil products are 100% food grade once fully cured. They contain no solvents, VOCs, isocyanates or any hazardous substances. This makes them ideal for kitchen benchtops, dining tables, cutting boards, children's furniture and any surface that may come into contact with food or hands.
Vinnie's Oil bonds to wood, metal, stone, concrete, plastic, epoxy and leather. It is primarily designed for timber but its unique small-molecule formula makes it the most versatile wood protection system on the market. Always test on a small inconspicuous area first on non-timber surfaces.
Vinnie's Oil is dry to light touch within a few hours and ready for light use within 24 hours. Full cure takes 3 days — significantly faster than many other natural hardwax oils. Avoid heavy use, water exposure or placing hot items on the surface during the curing period.
